Portrait of Bill Fenwick,
Co-Founder of Fenwick & West

"Codes of Freedom"

Codes of Freedom is an artistic tribute to William (Bill) A. Fenwick. Bill leans against a cloudless sky empty with possibilities. A dignified classical calm radiates from this powerful figure. Creating a sense of immediacy, his eyes look at you and through you into the future. Before them, there is nothing--no judgment, no bias and no opposition. Vision and wisdom--great ideas colliding inside his cosmically complex mind. His head tilted, Bill listens intently, focused on you--associate, partner, colleague, friend, ally and most importantly client. Nothing can distract him from the now.

Bill's portrait conveys a sense of urgency as well as a sense of calm. The surging brush stroke on the right echoes freedom. Coursing down his right shoulder, it becomes a fast and mighty river ending in a spray that evaporates into the white space. Clasped in a meditative gesture, Bill's hands are in a state of reflection and balance. His intertwined fingers suggest someone who has grappled with complexity and divisiveness yet found a way to resolve conflict and to restore order. His index finger guides us to a common ground of understanding. Bill is rightly so the guardian of Codes of Freedom.
