Background
Hoover Institution Director John Raisian wanted to honor 5 distinguished Board of Overseers members for their exemplary service and contributions to the Hoover Institution. The Director wanted a gift to symbolize the Hoover Institution, but he needed 5 identical gifts. He also hoped that he would be able to give the same gift in succeeding years. So Dr. Raisian thought of Drue and of the many important commissions she has done for the Hoover Institution including her painting On the Eve of the Millennium for the Institution's holiday card and I Ring for Peace installed in the base of Hoover Tower. He contacted Drue and entrusted her with the solution.
Client's Goals
Appreciating the beauty and elegance of Drue's work, Director John Raisian knew that Drue would be able to create a gift that would be of its time but also in its very essence timeless. He asked Drue to infuse her brush strokes of Hoover Tower with the mission, history and meaning of the Hoover Institution itself.
Drue's Solution
Drawing upon her knowledge of Hoover history inspired by her research in the Hoover archives, Drue created Freedom's Face Imprinted on the Sky. This original Sumi-e painting depicts the majestic Hoover Tower scraping a cloudless sky with Stanford's Quad stretching out below. She felt an exclusive limited numbered series would enable the Director to have these special gifts for a number of years.
- Drue's image became an exclusive limited edition series of 50 prints signed and numbered.
- Overseeing all aspects of the production and printing, Drue also consulted with the Hoover staff to help them with custom framing including a personalized plaque honoring each distinguished Overseer.
- She placed the remaining signed and numbered prints in archival sleeves and delivered them to the Hoover Institution.
- After the ceremony, Drue arranged for the 5 commemorative prints to be packed and shipped to the recipients.
Highlight
At the presentation of Freedom's Face Imprinted on the Sky, Drue was moved by Director John Raisian's remarks and was pleased by the responses of the members of the Board of Overseers at the ceremony.
