Powerfully brushed Sumi strokes capture two in-your-face figures engaged in unruly and uncivil behavior. Tempers flaring, upraised arms, and their irate faces serve as a visual "Shut Up." Isolated from one another, the ebony-inked figures spar in the negative boxed space. The threatening hand above the man's head suggests that his Sumi counterpart on the right will not get a word in edgewise. His angry stance is echoed in his swirling tie. Posturing on the right, the furious woman is holding her own ground-unwilling to give an inch. Separated by the text and the loathsome words "Shut Up You Liar," the enraged pair carry on their despicable behavior distilled in the bold, black ink of Sumi-e.
