Zen Intro to Project

Portrait of the Founders of Fenwick & West

Portrait of Fenwick & West is painted in the tradition of Sumi-e, a 2000 year-old Zen art from by Master Sumi-e Artist, Drue Kataoka. Zen is a philosophy of contradiction.

This is a portrait of the Founders.
This is not a portrait of the Founders at all.

This is a portrait of the Firm.
This is a portrait not the Firm, but of the clients.

This is a portrait of Hank and Bill.
This is a portrait of two people.
This is a portrait of one person.
This is a portrait of you.
This is not a portrait.

This is an allegory of the Firm's vision and the values embedded in it. The portrait distills the essence of a leading edge Firm that has played a pivotal role in Silicon Valley. Emblematic of their trust for each other, Co-founders, William (Bill) A. Fenwick and Henry (Hank) West stand back to back.
